simply fun reviews for all today’s news and technologies

I posted about the Firefox 3 Download Day – on my personal blog. Well, as reminder, they (Firefox) will try to set a new world record, for the most downloaded software within 24 hours.
I just got time today, to try this Firefox 3 (beta or release candidate), which turned out don’t support most of add-ons I’m using (like Google Toolbar, AVG Safe Search, etc) — just like they wrote on the warning announcement.
So, Here’s my wrap-up review.
I’m not going through all the details, but mostly for those that caught my attention; beside I have to go back to Firefox 2, since I can’t live without google toolbar =D.
Nothing is really different. With no-text option, all I get is this cooler Back and Forward buttons. There is also an additional icon for instant bookmark, next to the URL.
Just click, it turns to yellow, and submitted to your Bookmark Folder. No more shortcut, no more stumbling on menu.
The TABS manager also is getting greater. Now it smoothly sliding everytime you press the “next” arrow (if you have a massive tabs) — and it keeps sliding as long as you HOLD the button. Cool feature.

This one is pretty good, and truly useful. The additional Go to Download Page and Copy Download Link — options, without my explanation, you already know what I mean by useful, don’t you?
The Go to Download page, will be there as long as you keep the history, cookies, whatsoever that required for it to appears. In other case, it will will be gone, but the Download Link stills available.

This one suck. Well, at least they tried to make it cool. With the letter-per-letter matching system, and it shows also the Web-Page title, which in my case — completely annoying.
I don’t need the web-page title, but the complete URL address to browse my live-history just like usual. Dunno how to disable it, haven’t check it yet. Next!

Well… they said it reduces the memory usage. I don’t know why, but my current Firefox (2) always went up more than 100MB, even when I just started it up. Maybe my plug-ins, add-ons, or something else. So, 100MB is normal for me. With this Firefox 3, I’m still getting that 107+ MB RAM (7 tabs opened). Well?

There, we have now Applications inside the Option menu. You can control which file to be opened by what program. I’m not sure if it’s previously added to Firefox 2 already, but I just realized how important this is.

This might be the best and most lovable feature from Firefox 3 for Copycaters.
By holding CTRL + Click and drag, you can doing a multiple text-selections, just like selecting multiple files on your Windows desktop / folder.
Copy and paste? Yeah, that simple. You can create a unique article just by using 1 button of your keyboard + Mouse.

I found this feature already on Opera. By holding CTRL+ + , or CTRL + Mouse Scroll (best), it will zoom the page, text, everything as large as possible. This similar feature also found on IE, even it’s limited at maximum of the “Largest” size from Text-Size menu.
However, on Firefox 3, it has the “Zoom Text Only” options.
It ignores everything but text, includes CSS, Images, etc. So, the margin-left, for example, stays intact. check the 2nd picture for the max text-zoom capability.
Unfortunately, I wish the zoom center point will follows my mouse cursor. That would be awesome (just like in a Flash page), but I doubt it will happens. Maybe somewhere in the future?
Firefox 3, their trial to breaking the world record, could be their own double edged sword.
This could be the biggest success, which can also turns out to be the worse nightmare. How mass will love it? The Firefox 3; we’ll see — but more than that, I don’t think they will care that much. Why?
It’s free!, and the world record is already on the palm of their hand.
Anyway, that’s all for now. I have to go back to Firefox 2, and wait until the full release available, coming up next week. I’m already missing my Google toolbar. Thank’s for coming.
