Dell Studio

Dell officially released the new series of laptop, called as Studio. Comes with 2 type, 15.4″ (starts at $800) and 17″ (starts at $1000) widescreen, but the price absolutely boosted if you’re upgrading for such Blue Ray or LED backlight thingies. Other than hardware specs, the (if you can call it as) new technologies in this notebook, areĀ  the Dell Dock and Dell Video Chat.

But first, let’s take a look on its specs.

Since it’s not yet official in USA, this specs fetched from Dell Germany website. Here’s the most basic build for Studio 15 (15.4″)

  • Pentium dual-core T2390 (1.86GHz, 533.1 M)
  • 2048 MB 667 MHz dual-channel DDR2 SDRAM (2 x 1024)
  • 160 GB SATA hard drive (5,400 rpm).
  • 256 MB ATI Mobility RADEON 3450 HD
  • Fixed Internal 8X DVD + /-RW drive slot Load
  • Vista Home Premium

That’s basically what you get for the lowest price, with basically 6-cell battery and 15,4″ WXGA TL-Display. Studio 15 weighed at 2.77 kg, or approximately 6 pounds.

Now for the feature, Dell Dock, which is (heavily) inspired by OS X Mac’s style — the dock. The program launcher that stays on your desktop, and basically replacing all of your desktop’s shortcuts, more organized, clean and cute (well, it’s animated).

Check the screenshot, from Gizmodo.

Dell Dock is ugly though. Rocket Dock from Bricopack is much more attractive, which I’ve been using it for like over a year.

The other feature is Dell Video Chat, together with SightSpeed, which is make the video chat through (intergrated) webcam is easier — even I have no idea how difficult to set up your Webcam Video on your MSN, Yahoo or other IM.

Regards the price, it’s reasonable for the specs. Functional-wise, ready to full-wipe, back to XP (ONLY IF there’s a support drivers or some kind of hack, muahahaha).

Oh, Shut up!
