simply fun reviews for all today’s news and technologies

Soon, few days to go, MSI Wind will makes its debut. However, we already know how it leaked to some hands since last month, which is fortunate us to brings the deep review up to the surface.
MSI Wind U100 is one of the hottest mini-laptop expected by the market after EEE PC — whether it has a good reputation, or also the hackable feature to run Mac OSX? (maybe…)
Bit-Tech.net managed to had this mini-laptop on hands for US $500, and wrote a review by the following specs:
Here’s the wrap-up review.
compared to Asus EEE PC 1000H MSI Winds with 10″ display is slightly larger in dimension — the other things are the Soundcard ALC888S, which is lack from Dolby and slower wireless connectivity.
In other hand, MSI Winds in weight, 1 kilogram, it’s pretty competitive versus the 9″ mini-laptops, by the fact that MSI Winds managed to cramped the 80GB HDD inside. There’s still controversial between HDD vs SSD, since while ago, it’s proven by Tom’s Hardware, that SSD is not really save the battery life consumption, but indeed, it requires more power; but for some people, they prefer the bigger space with lower cost.
The other thing is the keyboard-size is big enough and pretty comforts to use.
The booting speed, normally takes about less than 40 seconds. It’s well enough to play some light games, with a clear 1024 x 600 screen resolution.
Just like UMPC in general, it has no optical driver, which is pretty annoying for some people. The battery life also not really impressive. 3-cell battery, managed to stay alive for 2.5 hours on idling, minimum brightness and disabling the wireless.
Can’t really blame it, as you can get better life with 6-cell, but it adds the weight of course.
MSI Wind is a good deal for its price, it also deserves to be called as EEE PC killer or competitor. Solid build, user-friendly design, affordable, and decent performance, other than the poor battery life, and other things, MSI Wind U100 is one thing to be consider, even it might not be your first choice.
