This is the new affordable HD Camcorder from Sony, HDR-CX12, which will be available in August for $900. While it still using Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo^TM technology, this camcorder able to records 1920 x 1080 HD video and 10 mega pixel still images.

The other thing is, it comes with the Smile Recognition and Face Detection technology. Those are common for Digital Camera, but it might be the first Video Camera that have them.

Not only that, this HDR CX12 is pretty compact– true, they claim it as an ultra-portable camcorder anyway. The size approximately just as big as soda can. 2.8″ wide, 5.3″ tall.

Back to Smile Recognition technology, it’s indeed a great new technology from sony. There’s a Smile Shutter which will automatically capture the smiling moment as a Still Image WHILE you’re recording a video. It’s on the fly.

It has 2.7″ Clear Photo LCD Plus^TM screen, comes with (only) 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo (Mark2). It’s using touch screen technology for navigation too.
