I thought I will be satisfied with Sennheiser HD-202 that I bought couple weeks ago. Well… I gave up. That OMG long cable (10 feet) irritated me most. Yeah, I know headphones are not meant to be portable; but I want it to!
Last week I went to recording studio (my friend’s), and he’s using MDR V-600. Yeah, Sony — I tried em, and they were pretty comfort on your head. The foams felt nice on both ears. I compared it side-by-side with my HD202, and I noticed lots of differences, especially when you turning off all equalizer, smart volume, and bass-boost (I’m using Creative Vision:M).
V600 had deeper sound, and natural, while HD202 just fell flat. Talk about the bass response, MDR got the beer.
I decided to get my own pair later on, so I went home and fired up my search engine. I found out many people on head-fi.org talked about these two pairs, and concluded that V6 is better than V600. After read a lot about their discussion, I still don’t get the idea why people despise V600. They’re pretty good though… for me.
However, I finally went for MDR V6 instead of 600. They’re pretty similar (in series), so I thought it would be similar in shape as well.
I got my V6 yesterday ($75), and it was different. It is different. Well, here’s my quick summary:
PROS:
- Very comfort ear muff
- Decent sound quality
- Following the shape of your head
- Coiled wire
- Looks good on you.
- Cheaper than V6
CONS:
- The material looks easily washed out
- Despised by head-fi.org ;p
PROS
- Deeper response (on hand)
- Lightweight
- Portability (it’s foldable)
- Coiled wire
CONS
- Ear muff kinda tight (It will goes away by time tho)
- The tiny cables on both adjustable strap are left out
- Looks (little) weird on your head (the mini-look of Senn HD280)
- Uncomfortable to tangle it on your neck
I don’t know, I complained a lot for V6, but I’m so happy with this purchase. V6 feels more durable than V600 — you will know when you touch it with your hand. Beside the sound quality is more important. So, now I’d rather to give my Senn HD202 to my brother, or throw it on eBay?
